While a traditional panini has quite a few more rules, these days the only real rule for how to make these great grilled sandwiches is to butter or brush oil on the outsides of the bread and to throw it on a panini maker so that the bread gets pressed on both sides. The rules are really that simple! From there, it’s up to you to decide what you want to fill your sandwich with. You want to put on some kind of spread, and then some kind of filling. You can stick to cheese, or you can go with some fun spreads like pesto or tomato sauce-or you can do both! For fillings you can stick to meats, or you can add in vegetables, or just stick to vegetables themselves. The possibilities are really up to you.
